Shijie works on multilingual terminology extraction in maritime safety. His research interests specifically include:
➔ Evaluation of BERT fine-tuning and generative language models for effective terminology annotation in the maritime domain
➔ Research on terminology extraction for maritime safety based on deep learning methods
➔ Empirical study on the impact of terminology extraction models on translation practices in maritime safety
Shijie is a member of the Maritime Language Data Research Team at Shanghai Maritime University (China), supervised by prof. dr. Yan Zhang. He is also a member of the Language and Translation Technology Team (LT3) at Ghent University, co-supervised by prof. dr. Véronique Hoste and prof. dr. Els Lefever. Since 2021, he has been actively involved in the China National Social Science Fund project, Research on Maritime Language Standardization and International Maritime Discourse under the Perspective of a Strong Maritime Country (No.: 21BYY017) (2021-2025). Additionally, Shijie leads the Top-notch Innovative Talents Cultivation Program project, Automatic Terminology Extraction within the Maritime Domain Using Deep Learning Methodologies (No.: 2022YBR020) (2022-2024). Overall, Shijie's projects and research primarily focus on maritime language data, advancing the study of maritime language through the lens of computational linguistics.
