On May 30th, during the CIUTI Conference in Edinburgh, Joke Daems was awarded the CIUTI Award for her PhD thesis, which she defended in September 2016: A Translation Robot for Each Translator? A Comparative Study of Manual Translation and Post-editing of Machine Translations: Process, Quality and Translator Attitude. The thesis was supervised by Lieve Macken and Sonia Vandepitte.
The CIUTI Award is an incentive by CIUTI to promote excellence in translation and interpreting research. The Award is available annually to laureates with outstanding doctoral theses. Provided that the quality criteria are met, the jury selects one winner per academic year.
Initiated in 1960, CIUTI is the world’s oldest and most prestigious international association of university institutes with translation and interpretation programmes. Membership requires fulfillment of strict quality criteria and is a distinct seal of quality.
